Learn how to use SprinklerMap to design your irrigation system.

Drawing Mode

Drawing mode allows you to create your garden plan by tracing boundaries on a map.

  1. Draw Perimeter
    Tap on the map to add points. Create at least 3 points to form an area. Tap the first point to close the perimeter.
  2. Add Holes (Obstacles)
    Use the 'Hole' button to draw areas to exclude like houses, pools, or driveways within the perimeter.
  3. Place Sprinklers
    Use the 'Sprinkler' button to manually place sprinklers, or 'Auto Sprinkler' for intelligent automatic placement.
  4. Adjust and Export
    Drag sprinklers to adjust position. Use settings to change nozzle type and radius. Export the project when satisfied.

GPS Mode

GPS mode allows you to trace the perimeter by physically walking along the boundaries of your garden.

  1. Position in Garden
    Go to a corner of your garden and wait for GPS to stabilize. Accuracy is shown on screen.
  2. Start Recording
    When ready, press 'Add Point' to record your current position as a perimeter vertex.
  3. Walk along Edge
    Move to the next corner of the garden and add another point. Repeat for all corners.
  4. Close Perimeter
    When you have traced all boundaries, press 'Close Perimeter' to complete the shape and proceed to sprinkler placement.

Web GPS Mode

On desktop browsers, you can trace the perimeter directly on the satellite map without walking.

  1. Search your Address
    Enter the garden address in the search bar to center the map on the correct location.
  2. Activate Drawing Mode
    Once map is positioned, activate drawing mode to trace the perimeter on the satellite view.
  3. Trace Boundaries
    Click on the map to add points following the garden edges visible in the aerial photo.

Configure Vegetation, Soil and Pressure

Before placing sprinklers automatically, enter a few details about the garden: they're the basis for the water-need calculation.

  1. Indicate the Vegetation
    Select the type of plants in the area (lawn, shrubs, mixed beds): used to estimate daily water requirements.
  2. Set the Sun Exposure
    Indicate how much sun the area gets to correctly compute evapotranspiration — how much water the soil loses over the course of the day.
  3. Choose the Soil Type
    The soil type (sandy, clay, loam) affects water absorption speed and therefore the recommended number of irrigation cycles.
  4. Configure the Available Pressure
    Enter your system's water pressure, expressed in bar: this is what Auto Sprinkler uses to pick a compatible radius and flow rate.

Auto Sprinkler

The Auto Sprinkler algorithm automatically places sprinklers to cover the entire area efficiently.

  1. Prerequisite: Closed Perimeter
    Before using Auto Sprinkler, ensure you have closed at least one perimeter.
  2. Select Sprinkler Type
    In settings, choose the sprinkler type and desired coverage radius.
  3. Start Calculation
    Press 'Auto Sprinkler' and the algorithm will place sprinklers to maximize coverage and minimize overlaps.
  4. Manual Adjust
    You can always move, add, or remove sprinklers after automatic placement.

Customize Sprinklers and Tools

After placing sprinklers — manually or with Auto Sprinkler — you can adjust each one individually and use the editor tools to work faster.

  1. Edit Radius, Angle and Bearing
    Tap a sprinkler to open its settings: radius, opening angle and bearing determine the shape and direction of the spray.
  2. Choose Between Spray and Rotator
    Spray sprinklers cover small areas with a fixed jet; rotator sprinklers cover larger radii with a rotating jet. Don't mix the two types on the same zone: they have different flow rates.
  3. Use Undo, Zoom and Units
    Undo and Redo fix a mistake in one tap, zoom helps you place sprinklers precisely, and you can switch between meters and feet from the settings.

Irrigation Simulation

The simulation feature allows you to see in real-time how water accumulates on the ground over time.

  1. Activate Simulation
    Press the 'Play' icon in the toolbar to start the dynamic simulation.
  2. Observe Accumulation
    Watch how the ground color changes from dark green to bright green as water is distributed.
  3. Identify Critical Issues
    Yellow indicates zones with excessive accumulation, while red signals potential runoff (water waste).
  4. Optimize the Project
    Use the simulation to adjust sprinkler orientation and opening until you achieve uniform irrigation without waste.

Materials List

From the drawn project, SprinklerMap automatically generates the list of components you need, with quantities and estimated prices.

  1. Open the Components List
    With at least one sprinkler placed, open 'Components list' from the toolbar. This feature requires you to be signed in.
  2. Check Quantities and Prices
    For each category — sprinklers, pipes, fittings, valves, controller, sensors — you'll find the estimated quantity, an indicative unit price and the subtotal.
  3. Choose Products
    For each category you can pick a specific product among the suggestions: the links point to Amazon or AliExpress searches (affiliate links).
  4. Use the Total as a Quote
    The estimated total and indicative installation time help you plan the materials purchase or compare it against an installer's quote.

Save and Manage Your Gardens

Sign in with your account so you don't lose your work: once logged in, SprinklerMap automatically saves a draft as you draw.

  1. Sign In to Your Account
    Without signing in, the project only lives in the browser session: log in to enable saving.
  2. Automatic Draft Saving
    Once you're signed in, your changes are saved automatically as a draft while you work — you don't need to press anything.
  3. Save As
    Use 'Save As' to turn the draft into a project with a name you choose, kept separate from later drafts.
  4. Manage from 'My Gardens'
    From 'My Gardens' you can reload, rename or delete any saved project, so you can compare several solutions for the same garden.

Tips

  • Always start from corners when placing sprinklers manually.
  • The "Head-to-Head" overlap guarantees irrigation uniformity.
  • Use GPS mode on mobile for maximum measurement accuracy.
